With much heartache my biological mother had to give me away when I was still a little baby. My adoptive parents living in the Netherlands adopted me. When I was 9 my adoptive father unfortunately died.
To me love is looking back at a period of happiness yet sadness as well. I loved and still love my adoptive father. Even though I will love my adoptive parents for eternity I have also grown to love my biological parents.
Three years ago I met them for the first time because I went looking for them through the Dutch TV show ‘Spoorloos’ (translation: Without a Trace). I wanted to know where I came from, why I am the way I am and why I had been given away for adoption.
To me love means listening to the story of my biological mother. How she said her goodbyes when I was just born. To me love is accepting life the way it is and comes. I believe that pure love equals freedom. Everything is as it is and as it should be. Now I know who has given me my name and why. This has given everything real meaning. Mijn biologische moeder heeft mij met veel pijn in haar hart moeten afstaan toen ik nog een baby was. Ik ben geadopteerd door mijn adoptie-ouders.
Toen ik 9 was overleed mijn adoptievader.
Liefde is voor mij terugkijken naar een periode van geluk maar ook verdriet.
Ik hield en hou nog steeds van mijn adoptievader. Ondanks dat ik eeuwig zal houden van adoptieouders ben ik ook gaan houden van mijn biologische ouders. Drie jaar geleden heb ik ze voor het eerst ontmoet omdat ik ze ben gaan zoeken via het tv programma Spoorloos. Ik wilde weten waar ik vandaan kwam, weten waarom ik soms ben zoals ik ben, weten waarom ik ben geadopteerd.
Liefde is voor mij naar het verhaal luisteren van mijn biologische moeder. Hoe zij afscheid heeft genomen toen ik pasgeboren was. Liefde is voor mij het leven accepteren zoals het is. Van mijn biologische moeder kreeg ik de naam Issara. Issara betekent vrijheid. Ik geloof dat pure liefde staat voor vrijheid. Alles is zoals het is en alles gaat zoals het gaat.” Nu ik weet wie mijn naam heeft gegeven en waarom, heeft alles een echte betekenis gekregen. Liefde is niet alleen een gevoel, het is ook een boodschap.
